KNOWING THE ENEMIES OF SUCCESS

To some people success may mean different thing but on my own philosophy success, is achieving your desired aim and objectives.
In achieving these aims and objectives; various factors, hinges and enemies may mitigate against it. These enemies that rise against your achievement may not only stop you from achieving your desire goals but may also rise after achieving your goal. Consider the story of Cain and Abel in the Bible.
To me as approve by many people around me, these are the factors, conditions and enemies to success.
  1. Procrastination: Procrastination is one of the big enemies to success. According to a Scottish proverb, “what will be done someday will be done no day” there are people who would have been millionaires, billionaires by now, but every time they need to make an investment decision, they keep on postponing till tomorrow. Tomorrow is never a good time to make a decision because tomorrow is not in your hands. Just think deep, plan well and decide. Successful people believe in now! Now!! Now!!!
  2. Wasted opportunities: Just like me I believe so many people out there may have waste so many opportunities. According to Ukoabasi in his book tittle “the price of success” he mention that, success is about seizing opportunities as they come and maximize them. I also believe and agree that, seizing opportunity is one of the keys to success. But in life man may have several opportunities, but he will hardly seize and maximize it. When opportunities are utilize they increase. Don’t waste any opportunity any more if you want to fight this enemy of success.
  3. Inaction: Knowledge is power is a myth.  Power comes from taking action. Ideas are a dime a dozen and talk is cheap.  This may be the most powerful enemy of all because in the end, it’s disciplined action that creates life’s miracles.
  4. Inconsistency: Can you imagine an inconsistent airplane engine or breaks on your car that sometimes work and other times don’t?  This is the deceptive enemy because “sometimes” can be misconstrued for “always.”  Don’t be faked out by inconsistency disguised as progress.
  5. Faulty decision making: everybody make his own decision and every success is a product of quality decision. The ability to make quality decision and to stand by them is one of the hallmark of true champion.
  6. Poverty: Poverty is one of the major enemies of success. Scarcity of resources kills vision and paralyze initiatives. In combating this enemy, one has to be careful because it is the greatest enemy that may stop the weak ones. You have to be strong before you combat this enemy, poverty. Mobilize everything you have to fight poverty because as long as you are poor, your generation may never respect your voice (Ukoabasi)
  7. Intolerance: This is an enemy that will destroy us if we don’t begin to value differences and respect opposing views.  United we stand and divided we fall
  8. Indecision: Sitting on a fence and fearful to take a position is an enemy of immense proportions. If we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall (hard) for anything.  Destiny is determined in moments of decision – not indecision.
  9. Incompetence: This enemy is also known as the enemy of ignorance; and ignorance is NOT bliss.  We must slay this enemy and return to the days of mastery; of craftsmanship.  What you don’t know WILL kill you.
